Hudson Arts Collective

Your guide to HAC

Watch on your Roku.

Open the film on your phone, then show it on your TV. Choose your phone below and follow the steps.

You’ll need a compatible Roku TV or Roku player, your phone, and the same Wi-Fi network on both devices. Roku support varies by model. These steps use screen mirroring; HAC does not have a Roku channel.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Connect your phone and Roku to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On your Roku, open Settings → Apple AirPlay and HomeKit → AirPlay. Turn it On. If this menu is missing, your Roku may not support AirPlay. Try the laptop option below.
  3. On your phone, open Safari and visit hudsonartscollective.com → Film Vault. Open your film. Sign in if the film requires member access. For the festival program, open Watch Nightmares.
  4. Open Control Center: swipe down from the top-right corner, or swipe up from the bottom on older iPhones.
  5. Tap Screen Mirroring (two overlapping rectangles). Choose your Roku. Enter the code shown on your TV if asked.
  6. Return to Safari and tap Play. Keep your phone connected while you watch.

To stop mirroring, open Control Center → Screen Mirroring → Stop Mirroring.

Android phone

  1. Connect your phone and Roku to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On Roku, open Settings → System → Screen mirroring → Screen mirroring mode. Choose Prompt.
  3. On your phone, open the quick settings panel and look for Smart View or your phone’s screen mirroring setting. The name depends on the phone.
  4. Select your Roku, then use the Roku remote to Allow the connection when prompted.
  5. Open your phone’s browser, visit hudsonartscollective.com → Film Vault, select your film, and tap Play. For the festival program, open Watch Nightmares.

Some Android phones, including Google Pixel phones, do not support Roku’s screen mirroring method. A Google Cast button alone does not mean the phone can connect to Roku. If your phone cannot find Roku, use HDMI below or watch on your phone.

To stop, disconnect using your phone’s mirroring controls or press Home on your Roku remote.

The simple backup: laptop + HDMI

  1. Connect your laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable. Your laptop may need a compatible adapter.
  2. Using your TV remote, select the HDMI input you plugged into.
  3. Open Film Vault or Watch Nightmares on your laptop. Sign in if needed, then press Play and use the player’s full-screen control.
  4. If sound stays on the laptop, choose your TV or HDMI device in the laptop’s sound output settings.

This connects directly to your TV and works without Roku mirroring.

Something not working?

  • Roku doesn’t appear: check both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, confirm the correct mirroring setting is enabled, and restart both devices.
  • Black screen, audio only, or playback error: stop mirroring and try the film on your phone first. Some players or devices restrict mirrored playback. Use HDMI or watch on your phone/computer if mirroring fails.
  • Buffering: pause, check your connection, and try again. Move closer to your router if possible.
  • The film isn’t available yet: check the film’s viewing dates. Mirroring does not unlock unavailable or members-only films.

Open the Need Help widget or send HAC a message. Include your Roku model, phone model, film title, and what happened.
